# How to give Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor access to property data

AI assistants get live property data through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Add Parceled's MCP server URL, `https://www.parceled.ai/api/mcp`, as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT (developer mode), Cursor or Claude Code; sign in by email when prompted. The assistant can then check coverage, look up a property's owner, assessor record, permits and zoning, run filtered searches, and draw results on an inline map, paying per field that returns data.

## How do I keep an agent from overspending?

- Agents call the free `check_availability` first, so they never pay for a dataset that does not exist at a location.
- `include` limits which fields are fetched; the default is the 1-credit `parcel` field only.
- Empty fields are never billed.
- `update_budget_cap` sets a monthly ceiling the server enforces.

## What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 and now supported across major AI clients, that lets an assistant call external tools and data sources. A remote MCP server like Parceled publishes typed tools (for example `search_properties`) that the model can call during a conversation.
